Summary

Cultivate Your Wellbeing is a Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Practice in Mequon, WI. The goal of this workshop is to empower girls in their own health while also providing a service to the community to help with period poverty.

Description

Description

Gather with women and young girls for an educational workshop focused on period health and well-being, followed by a service project to create Period Kits for women and girls who do not have regular access to period products. The workshop will be led by physical therapists from Cultivate Your Wellbeing - an organization passionate about empowering women and girls in their health.

Activities

This workshop is designed for girls and their caregivers. It will be divided into two parts. During the first half, Katie Tredo from Cultivate Your Wellbeing will speak to girls and their caregivers about period health to empower girls to understand and take control of their health. Attendees will learn healthy lifestyle tips, symptom management outside of the typical NSAIDs or hormonal pills given to control periods, and learn how to look at their period as an important vital sign for their health.

This workshop is not designed to take the place of human growth and development or explain the physiology of the reproductive system. Instead, it is an opportunity to learn health and wellness tips to support healthy periods & healthy girls that are often not taught elsewhere. We recommend that girls have either had a class on human growth and development at school or have had detailed conversations with their caregiver and are informed about the menstrual cycle prior to attending.

During the second part of the workshop, the girls will learn what period poverty is and assemble Period Kits with pads, tampons, and a personal note to be donated to Milwaukee Diaper Mission and distributed through their Period Program.

Impact

1:4 women and girls do not have access to period products. Our girls get to create Period Kits containing all the hygiene supplies a woman or girl would need for her period and use their creativity in coloring/designing care cards to be in each pouch.

The Period Kits created at this workshop will be donated to Milwaukee Diaper Mission and distributed through their Period Program. Milwaukee Diaper Mission is a local organization dedicated to empowering families in need by providing a reliable source of free diapers & period supplies.

Additionally, the girls (and caregivers) who attend will learn healthy lifestyle tips, symptom management outside of the typical NSAIDs or hormonal pills given to control periods, and learn how to look at their period as an important vital sign for their health. In past workshops we have had caregivers comment how much they learned right along with their girls!

Our Partners

Cultivate Your Wellbeing

Cultivate Your Wellbeing was created to provide individualized, holistic, skilled physical therapy and wellness. They are passionate about educating their patients and community about Pelvic Health and empowering you to be your best health advocate. They understand that finding solutions to complex health issues can be extremely frustrating. Many of their patients have experienced being dismissed by a medical provider, given generalized treatment options that did not address the root cause of their issue, or felt limited in treatment choices by their insurance leading them to spend countless hours doing their own research and experimenting to improve their health.

The physical therapists at Cultivate Your Wellbeing will listen to your story and guide you to achieve your own unique goals. They are honored to work with each patient that comes through their doors. With a commitment to continued learning and over 15 years of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy experience we are dedicated to partnering with you in your health and helping you to find answers!
